Patricia Louise “Pat” Battles, residing in South Bend, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Healthwin Specialized Care, one week following her 91st birthday.
She was born February 20, 1935, in Wareham, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Gerald V. & Louise H. (Potter) Robery and has resided in South Bend since 1954 coming from Wareham.
On June 26, 1954, in Wareham, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Maurice E. Battles. Together they enjoyed nearly 54 years of marriage until his passing on January 29, 2008.
Pat retired in 1997 from the University of Notre Dame where she worked in the Bookstore and Mailing Room for 38 ½ years. She was a longtime member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church where she bowled on the church league for many years. She was also a past member of the Centre Township Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary. She loved playing cards, especially bridge and euchre, traveling with her husband, spending time at their cottage on Gravel Lake, as well as Notre Dame football. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.
Pat is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Maurice E. “Maury” and Sara Battles, Jr., her grandsons, Preston Battles and Dustin (Samantha Dalton) Battles, and her sister, Marjorie (Paul) Maloney of Wareham, MA.
Along with her husband Maurice, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Shoemaker, Mary Campbell, and June Anderson, and her brothers, Gerald & Douglas Robery.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Family and friends may gather from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 6 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan St., South Bend, as well as one hour prior to mass on Saturday at the church.
