Jerry Lee Grodey 89, of Niles, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN. Born on June 11, 1936, in South Bend, IN to the late Irene Evangeline (Babcock) and Frank Everett Grodey. He married Carol Sue Roempagel on September 23, 1956. He is survived by his children, Jeff (Julie) Grodey of Charlottesville, IN and Kevin (Dan Caudill) Grodey of Royal Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Ty Brown, Megan (Grodey) Wickizer (Travis), Nick Grodey, Lyndsay (Grodey) Connor (Ryan) and Joshua Caudill; three great grandchildren, Lessie, Lyle and Myles Connor and one sister, Maxine Lewis of South Bend. He was preceded in death by Carol Sue Grodey (Roempagel) and brother Robert Grodey.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a veteran in the Army and stationed in Verdun, France for 3 years. He retired from IBM. He also worked as a finishing carpenter for many houses in South Bend and the Granger area. He also worked as grounds maintenance at the Knollwood Golf Course and a long list of other jobs. He also volunteered at many places, including the schools and social groups where he, Carol and his sons were members. This included Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, PTA, Lions Club, and Civic Theater. Jerry graduated from Washington Clay High School. He enjoyed woodworking by making furniture for all the family, helping Carol Sue with her arts and crafts, and spending time with family and friends and traveling.
Services will take place at 6PM on Friday, March 6, 2026, with visitation from 4P-6P at Palmer Funeral Homes Welsheimer North Chapel. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the Niles Buchanan YMCA Livestrong Program online at www.ymcagm.org/giving or A Living Tribute www.shop.alivingtribute.org in Jerry’s name.
